seed library catalog
from our friends at the hudson valley seed library:
Our Full 2010 Seed Catalog is now online!
New for 2010
This year we have expanded our offerings, printed more packs, and grown and processed more of our own seed.
We now have three kinds of seed packs to help our customers distinguish between our seed sources.
Our Art Packs are the colorful, flower shaped packs that feature original artwork from 16 different New York artists. The Art Packs contain heirloom, open-pollinated, and non-GMO seeds from independent commercial sources.
Our Library Packs, which feature an image from an antique 1881 New York seed catalog, contain only regionally grown seeds. The seeds were grown either here on our farm, on another New York farm, or by our seed-saving library members.
Our Garden Packs contain heirloom, open-pollinated, and non-GMO seeds from independent commercial sources.
We've sweetened the deal for Seed Library memberships a bit more this year, earmarking certain limited-quantity locally grown varieties just for members and offering members a discount on Art Packs. Membership remains $20, and it includes 10 Library or Garden Packs of your choice, plus a Membership Pack containing a lettuce mix. Of course, you can still buy seeds from the general catalog without a membership.
We've also been sharing gardening tips and seedy ideas through our blog, Garden Notes for Seedy Folks, which is always on the front page of the website (just scroll down to see it). Our first post of 2010, "Out with the old, in with the new?" is all about what to do with your old seeds.
We want to thank everyone who helped make last year, our first year as a seed company, such a success--despite the soggy season. Your support and enthusiasm gave us the energy and inspiration to take the risk and become full-time farmers and seedsmen.
Here's hoping we all have a warmer, drier growing season this year!
Ken and Doug
p.s. We've heard from many members that last year's difficult conditions foiled plans to save seed and return some to the library. But if you were a member last year and you managed to save a bit of seed, return it to us within the next couple of weeks and we'll still give you credits toward your membership fee this year.
