washington young farmers organize!

Posted: October 18 2010

Great news as a result of our Washington Young Farmer mixer...here's a note from an attendee.

Nine of us carpooled to the WA Greenhorns mixer last week, and were amazed to see about 250 people at the Vashon Grange for the pig roast, potluck, and square dancing. I'd guess that about 200 of those were beginning or young farmers, from all over the NW WA. We had a great time.
As a result of the huge turnout and an interest in being connected, the Vashon farmers created a new regional young farmers' listserve and are working directly with the National Young Farmer Coalition and the Greenhorns resources showing the growth of the population of young farmers.

A related note: we have created a Whatcom beginning farmers resource page, found here: http://sustainableconnections.org/foodfarming/FTBO/resources-for-farmers
We invite you to check it out, and help us make sure that it is known as community resource page by sharing or linking to it.
Best regards,
Laura Ridenour
