UVM Extension New Farmer Project:  Pricing Clinics for Direct Marketing Farmers

Are you uncertain how much to charge for your farm products?  Are you unclear how to determine your costs of production? Do you need help determining prices for your farm products that support your business sustainability?  These FREE one-day clinics will provide hands-on opportunities to learn about various cost-based pricing techniques and tools using your own production and financial data. Participants will explore market placement and promotion considerations related to the price points they want to achieve. Follow-up mentoring and technical assistance will be available.  The clinic is being offered in two locations.

The Vermont Direct Market Pricing Project is an initiative of UVM Extension, in partnership with: the Vermont Vegetable and Berry Growers Association; the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont (NOFA-VT); and the Vermont Farmers’ Market Association. The goals of the Direct Market Pricing Project are to help farmers share information about what they charge at direct markets (farmstands, farmers’ markets, etc) for farm products and to provide education about farm pricing strategies.  With this information farmers can set prices that are fair to consumers while supporting farm profitability. Through the online Direct Market Price Report, online information and resources, and in-person workshops and clinics, the Project aims to support long-term farm viability.
