"If the bee disappears from the surface of the earth, man would have no more than four years to live. No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more man." - Albert Einstein
BEEKEEPING WITH A WILD HEART
PLEASE JOIN US FOR A DAY OF OBSERVATION AND EXPLORATION OF THE HEART, SOUL AND SCIENCE OF HONEY BEEKEEPING
Saturday, July 9, 10am to 6:30pm
with Paige Poulos of John Woolley Ranch, David Basile of Rudolf Steiner College & Michael Thiele of The Melissa Garden and Gaia Bees
Apis Mellifera, an ancient ally of humanity, and a species essential to our own survival on earth, is dying in record numbers. The causes are many, among them commercial beekeeping practices, which do not take into consideration the culture of the honey bee or the long-term health and vitality of the colony, honey harvest schedules at odds with the nourishment needs of the bees, over-concentration of hives in small areas, pesticides, herbicides, and more...
We will have presentations about the true nature of the honey bee “bien”, display hives that demonstrate simple top-bar hive design and construction, and new approaches in colony-conscious apiculture.
Special Exhibition: “In Honor of Melissa” photographs of honey bees by Artist and Photographer Amanda Lane
