SALARY: Salary and benefits commensurate with the Agreement between the Maine Community College System and the MEA Administrators Unit. Level III ($36,215.82 to $47,253.45)
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful applicant will hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or a related field and possess a minimum of 2 years of experience as a farm manager, supervising farm workers, and have the ability to work out of doors in a variety of conditions (heat, cold, mud, dust, rain and snow). Master’s degree in Agriculture or related field is preferred. A valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of employment is required. Strong written and oral skills are essential.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The position is responsible for managing the farm and farm related operations on the Alfond Campus in Hinckley, Maine for the instruction of students in agricultural programs. Farm operation includes but not limited to: planning production to maintain farm progress within budget parameters; operating machinery; ordering supplies; tending crops; maintaining and monitoring land use and crop yield; marketing the farm’s products and programs; monitoring farm animal health and welfare; developing an integrated pest management plan; protecting the environment and maintaining biodiversity; and managing maintenance and repair of facilities and improvements and when appropriate, making recommendations for major alterations or new construction to the College’s executive leadership team. Other responsibilities shall include supervision of students (directing and coordinating activities such as planting, irrigation, harvesting, grading and recordkeeping); complying with college, state, federal, environmental and animal care regulations as appropriate; coordinating with teaching faculty for on-farm activities including research; providing outreach to educational institutions and public groups for educational purposes; developing an operational plan for the farm in consultation with the Sustainable Agriculture Program Coordinator and advisory board; providing oversight of the financial resources and processes; and working collaboratively with the local community leaders and representatives of the agricultural industry groups.
