room for rent @ eightfold farm

Posted: November 9 2011

There is a room for rent at Eightfold Farm with shared kitchen and bath. The farm is located in Pfafftown, NC- twenty minutes from downtown Winston-Salem. Situated on seven acres of former cow pasture, the farm sees great sunrises/sets and a view of downtown Winston-Salem in the distance. Looking for a roommate who is financially responsible, relaxed yet tidy. Not necessary to be involved with the farm. Available January 1st. $250 a month plus utility share.
If you are interested in getting involved with the farm, I am looking for someone motivated, patient, curious, and flexible with an interest in nature, land conservation, and permaculture. Bringing some skills to the table is a huge plus. Personal garden space is available.
About the farm: currently one and ½ years of age, Eightfold Farm is very much a work in progress and still in design phase of its evolution. If you’ve heard of The Parlor, this is where those events happened last summer. Right now, I’m not too focused on the farm as a business but on building a sustainable business for the long term. My focus is on creating regenerative food culture that builds soil health, increases biodiversity and creates beauty in the process of extracting food and products. Ultimately, I’d like to create model permaculture education farm that also provides diverse genetics suited to the piedmont bioregion. I can be unorthodox and am following my own creative vision to achieve these ends. Currently I am starting to experiment with rainwater harvesting with earthworks, followed by agroforestry and perennial plants systems intermixed with self sowing open pollinated annual systems. Ducks and chickens are present on the farm now and eventually sheep or pigs might be added into the system. Here is an opportunity to learn and experiment with vegetable/herb gardening, seed saving, food forestry, and ecological design. Here is an opportunity to help build a regenerative food culture.
