Permaculture Workshops, Hudson Valley

Howdy All!
In just a few weeks I will be starting a Permaculture Design Course in the Hudson River Valley -- it's incredibly well-priced, and adds some innovative new twists to the standard 72-hour Permaculture Design Certification. Steve Gabriel of the Finger Lakes Permaculture Institute is co-teaching, and Dyami Nason Regan will be working with Sarai Shapiro to weave cultural mentoring and nature connection throughout the course. We'll be outside every day, with tons of hands-on and design project work.

Come Learn practical methods essential to becoming a steward of the earth while living in a Jewish community. This certification course will take place at the new Environmental and Social Justice based Eden Village Summer Camp in Putnam County, NY, with 250 pristine acres of forest, farmland, rock edges, and watering holes to play in.
Permaculture Topics covered included in the PCDC Certification:
Site analysis of vegetation and wildlife, natural building, compost and soil, water preservation, guilds, zoning, forest gardens, seed saving, grey water, and tools for planning, mapping, and executing a sustainable, abundant ecosystem and human culture
Each week the learning community will celebrate Shabbat:
A day of rest with communal music and prayer. Jewish Permaculture teachings by the Jewish Farm School will including: Peah, Lechet, Food Security, Shmitta, & other Jewish Agricultural Practices (not part of certificate)
Woven throughout the weeks will be the principles of Cultural Mentoring:
CM is derived from native teachings from many lineages including that of Tom Brown and Jon Young, and creates support for the development of a healthy individual and community.
If all Permaculture classes are attended a certificate in
Permaculture Design will be earned.
Ethan Roland is a Permaculture designer, teacher, and researcher based in the Hudson River Valley. He studies and practices and teaches regenerative design locally and abroad. He is the founder of the ecological design & development firm AppleSeed Permaculture and holds an M.S. in Collaborative Eco-Social Design. He continues his research on carbon-sequestering sustainable agriculture systems.
Steve Gabriel teaches children and adults to connect with the landscape through awareness exercises and Permaculture projects. He is the Educator and Program Coordinator for the Finger Lakes Permaculture Institute and is a Mentor for EarthArts, in Ithaca, NY. He has taught six 72-hour Permaculture Design Courses, organized large conferences, and designed home sites, farms, and gardens around the US.
Dyami Nason-Reagan has been working with children in nature following the teachings of Cultural Mentoring for the past 3 years and passionately pursuing Permaculture for the last year and a half. Dyami attended Empire State College where she completed her degree in Natured-Based Mentoring and created a youth-run community garden in the village of Ellenville, NY. Dyami is interested in the combination of Permaculture and Cultural Mentoring.
The Jewish Farm School is dedicated to teaching in a hands-on, creative, and inspiring way to renew the Jewish connection to the earth and sustainable food sources. Nati Passow is a Co-Founder and Director of the Jewish Farm School. He ran an award-winning urban garden program in Philadelphia and has studied sustainable building design and natural building and holds a B.A. in Religion and Environmental Studies from UPenn. Simcha Schwartz's experiences include farming, natural building, educating and coordinating for the Teva Learning Center, Hazon and American Jewish World Service. He is a co-founder and Associate Director of the Jewish Farm School and is currently earning a Masters in Education from Goddard College.
