our hero Niel Young calls on the president and the country to stand with Standing Rock
Update: The US Army has denied the permit allowing the NDAP to pass under the Missouri river and through Standing Rock land!
In the face of an uncertain transition in Washington and the continued silence of the current administration, musician, activist, and all round great fellow, Niel Young issued a statement calling president Obama to own up to his promises to Native Americans and stop the North Dakota Access pipeline now. On his recent visit to the protectors at Standing Rock Niel had this to say:
We arrived at this unprecedented historical gathering of over five hundred tribes and thousands of others standing on the front lines to protect water, to state the most basic human truth, to say water is life. Despite the painful history, today they fight peacefully for us all.
But it's not really enough to expect those in power will are suddenly going to begin making concessions, a reality that will certainly increase with the incoming president. We elect people to represent our values not their own agendas.
Do not be intimidated by the surprise presidents' cabinet appointees as they descend the golden escalator. Those who behave in racist ways are not your leaders. The golden tower is not yours. The White House is your house.
Un-intimidated, stand, speak up and show up. Be counted. Be like our brothers and sisters at Standing Rock. Be there if you can. The progress we have made over two hundred and forty years as a nation, has always come first from the people
