official state soils!
Posted: September 26 2014
A state soil is a soil that has special significance to a particular state, and each state in the United States has one! According to the USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), these “Official State Soils” share the same level of distinction as official state flowers and birds. The NRSC has handy fact sheets to download for each state (ex. Honeoye in New York, San Joaquin in California, Chesuncook in Maine, Tama in Iowa). We think this is a great place to start the much needed conversation about soil conservation.
