new farmer narrative
Friday, May 18, 4-7pm: Opening Reception for the New Farmer Narrative Project’s Journey into Farming exhibit at the Chatham Real Food Market Co-op (15 Church Street, Chatham, NY).
This traveling exhibit highlights the journeys, stories and experiences of 20 new farmers in Columbia County through a photo- and story-based display. The project is based on interviews and farm tours conducted by the Hawthorne Valley Farmscape Ecology Program with people who have started farms in the County in the last 10 years.
Featured farms include Blue Star, Common Hands, Cool Whisper, Cowberry Crossing, Full Field, Hand Hollow, Lineage, New Leaf, Oakwood, Pigasso, Sol Flower, Sparrowbush, Tousey Winery, and Whole Hog Farm.
Please join us for this kickoff event where the exhibit will get unveiled, light food and beverages will be served, and you will have the opportunity to meet some of the county’s new farmers.
Subsequently, the display will travel to libraries and other venues throughout the county and can be viewed in the Chatham Public Library (May 20 - June 2), Roeliff Jansen Community Library (June 3 - 17), New Lebanon Library (June 18 - 30), Germantown Library (July 3 - 14), Greenhorns Office in Hudson (July 17 - 28), Philmont Public Library (July 30 - August 13), and North Chatham Free Library (Sept. 4 - 17). There will also be several other New Farmer events related to the display, which will facilitate further discussion around the new face of agriculture.
