MOFGA's farm & homestead day
So many people asked, "Whatever happened to Small Farm Field Day?" that a group of dedicated volunteers decided to resurrect the event as Farm & Homestead Day at MOFGA. The emphasis is on teaching rural living skills through a variety of hands-on activities. The event will be held this year on Saturday, June 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at MOFGA's Common Ground Education Center in Unity.
Workshops will include tool sharpening, raising meat rabbits, leather working, all things scythe and many more. The fiber area will have spinning, weaving, carding, felting and other workshops. Come learn to use a treadle sewing machine!
Children's activities will include papermaking, building bird boxes and planting a pizza garden.
New this year are several alternative methods of cooking, including using a solar oven, a rocket stove and a bake oven. In addition, a building track will teach how to make a coffin, humanure box, bike trailer, garden cart, really raised beds and more.
The ever-popular herb workshops are back, too.
More workshops will be added as we get closer to the event. Check the "Farm & Homestead Day" link in the MOFGA events calendar at www.mofga.org.
Farm & Homestead Day at MOFGA is a volunteer driven, skill-share event with its own steering committee, so volunteers are needed to share their skills, ideas and energies.
