Knot-Tying Workshop at Chautauqua!

Posted: August 12 2010
Rope Fibers & Knot Tying with Christin Ripley
This workshop will be held on Sunday morning at the Beehive collective and will cover the resources historically used for rope making from plants to oil, the raw material qualities of plant fibers to produce a variety of finished materials such as fabric, paper and rope, and demonstrate knot tying. Ripley's skills in knot tying come from practical application in sailing a traditionally gaff rigged  schooner, as well as contemporary Marconi rigged sailboats. She is knowledgeable in other areas of marlin spike seamanship including splicing, whipping, seizing and mousing.
