some people get into farming alongside their professional lives. in England these people are called small holders, in the us they are called hobby farmers.

these people participate in the agricultural economy, they learn practical skills, they fix nitrogen, they grow local food, and they contribute to the food security of their location. Sometimes folks in the US make fun of hobby farmers--which is pretty silly.
