growing farmers conference
Greenhorns will be there! Will you? They've reached capacity, but you can add your name to the waiting list.
The first annual Growing Farmers Conference will be hosted by Hampshire College on February 19th, 2010. The student-organized conference will gather young and beginning farmers, activists, students, and enthusiasts from the Pioneer Valley and beyond for a day of education, organizing, and collaboration.
This one-day, free conference will offer informative workshops for both beginning and experienced young farmers. For beginning farmers, there will be panels on topics including soil science and compost, designing crop rotations, and grass-based dairy farming. For experienced farmers, the National Young Farmers’ Coalition will help lead a series of collaborative, discussion-based workshops on policy, land tenure, and the Farm Hack project (a new project to help farmers share inventions, ideas, fixes and tools that they are creating on their farms).
There will be three sessions of workshops, a screening of the documentary film The Greenhorns, and a panel discussion with local farmers on how we can strengthen our regional farmer network.
Lunch will be potluck-style (bring something to share!) and dinner will be available with a donation to the cooks.
We have reached our capacity, but you can still RSVP to be on the waiting list: RSVP to be on the Waiting List HERE
