Role Summary: The Market Manager shall be responsible for management, coordination and supervision of the day-today activities of the Ann Arbor Public Market, including general maintenance of the Market facility and enforcement of the provision of Chapter 31 of City Code, the Public Market Operating rules and regulations and other provisions of the City Code pertaining to the operation of the Market
Essential Duties:
• Attending the Market during hours of operation and coordinating market day logistics
• Enforcing the Market’s operating rules and regulations, including appropriate City Code
• Reviewing and recommending operating rules to Community Services Administrator or designee;
• Administering, maintaining and updating all related Market records including vendor applications, product lists, etc.
• Preparing and monitoring budget; Maintaining billing and depositing fees
• Supervising and directing the Assistant Market Manager and the external Market Inspector while also coordinating volunteers
• Facilitating the inspection of new or current vendors
• Scheduling and staffing special events
• Coordinating and promoting food assistance programs, providing promotional information
• Applying for operational and capital improvement grants; administering grants; and assuring proper maintenance of office building and grounds.
Knowledge of: (position requirements at entry)
• Customer service principles
• Marketing / Social media
• Relevant food assistance programs such as SNAP, Project Fresh, and Market Fresh
• Michigan Department of Agriculture licensing requirements,
• Michigan agriculture, farming and/or produce industry
Training and Experience: (position requirements at entry)
• Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Management, agriculture, business, facility management, marketing, or related field, or relevant, equivalent work experience
• Experience managing similar venue: at least three years
