Our keynote speaker Debra Eschmeyer is an organic farmer and the co-founder and program director of FoodCorps – the first national volunteer service program for young people working for food security in limited resource communities. She is a former Kellogg Food & Society Fellow, and has worked as outreach director of the National Farm to School Network, and project director at the National Family Farm Coalition. Debra works from her 20-acre organic farm, Harvest Sun Farm, in Ohio.
Other conference highlights:
Friday afternoon: Registration from 2-4, then a progressive tasting tour of three of Des Moines’ finest restaurants featuring locally sourced foods: Luna Bistro and The Continental in the East Village, and Dos Rios Cantina downtown.
Friday evening: "Wine, Women and Song" event. The public is welcome to this event at woman-owned Jasper Winery, featuring a wine and chocolate reception, readings, artwork and live music.
Saturday: Registration begins at 8 a.m. Hear Deb Eschmeyer speak at 9 a.m., followed by a full slate of workshops and panels with information on everything from farm startups to community organizing, plenty of networking time, and a local foods lunch. SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER: Christie Vilsack, 4th District Congressional candidate.
