JOB DESCRIPTION: Assistant Farm Manager
Stout Oak Farm is hiring a Assistant Farm Manager to join our team for the 2012 season. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 - 3 years vegetable farming experience, ability to perform repetitive physical tasks, a strong work ethic, and a good sense of humor. We are looking for someone who can keep up a fast pace, is willing to learn on the job, and loves working outdoors (even in challenging weather conditions). Assistant Farm Manager responsibilities include: greenhouse propagation, transplanting, weeding, bed preparation, seeding, irrigation, harvesting, filling restaurant orders, packing CSA shares, and managing the harvest and field crew to ensure work is being completed properly and on time. This position requires organization, good communication skills, and flexibility. The Assistant Farm Manager will work closely with the Farm Manager to implement crop plans and planting schedules, create a weekly work plan, and prioritize tasks. This position is ideal for a someone who is serious about building his or her organic vegetable production and farm management skills.
Applicant must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. The position is paid by the hour and runs from April through October (35 - 40 hours/week). Compensation depends on experience. The basic work schedule for this position is Tuesday through Friday, plus a half day on Saturday. The work day begins at 7:00am. Housing is not available.
