Huguenot Street Farm is a dynamic, innovative, CSA-focused agricultural project in New Paltz in New York's Hudson Valley Region.
This will be our 14th year of CSA and we do a small number of wholesale and restaurant sales as well. Our website is at www.flyingbeet.com. We have an opening for an assistant farm manager position for someone with at least 1-2 full seasons on a vegetable farm who feels that they want to take on more responsibility than is offered in an apprenticeship position. The start and end dates of the position are somewhat flexible, but preferably earlier March to sometime in November.

Duties: The Assistant Farm Manager duties include general farm work (planting, harvesting, propagation, irrigation, operating the tractor and machinery); working with the Farm Manager to maintain and monitor the quality of produce and plant health; ensuring CSA and market orders are met fully and on time. Specific duties are assigned in coordination with the farm manager. Additionally he/she will be expected to: Take on the management of specific areas of the farm (e.g. overseeing all aspects of tomato hoophouse production), assigned according to interest and to best assist the farm manager; lead a small number of sustainable ag-related workshops for the general public; and actively pursue a greater understanding of ecological farming methods. The work week is 35-50 hours, depending on the time of year.
Training: The Assistant Farm Manager will have the opportunity to learn the additional aspects of the farm operations not covered in a first year apprenticeship position, including off-season planning, farm operations management, and tractor use. There is also a formal CRAFT program in the area that can be an educational resource.
Compensation: Depending on experience; $1600-2000/month. There is also food from the farm.
