Early this January, the National Endowment for the Arts announced its new program, Citizens’ Institute on Rural Design where, an emphasis is largely placed on rural design. As their website states “Rural design is an important tool for rural communities to build upon existing assets and improve the way a community looks, its quality of life, and its economic viability. However, few rural communities have access to design assistance or the expertise to tackle these challenges on their own.” (http://rural-design.org/about)
Along with workshops, and resources for rural communities, the Citizens’ Institute on Rural Design outlines in this article, “What is GoodRural Design?”
This article is interesting in the consideration of : what is rural? what are the motives behind a successful “rural” design?
