Weir River Farm seeks market garden apprentices for 2013. Weir River Farm, located in Hingham, Massachusetts, is a property of the Trustees of Reservations. The farm sustainably raises livestock and vegetables and provides educational opportunities for adults and youth. The 4.5 acre market distributes organically-grown produce through a community-supported-agriculture program, a local farmer’s market, restaurants and hunger relief donations. We seek market garden apprentices who are enthusiastic about farming to assist with all aspects of a small, diverse vegetable operation. Responsibilities include assisting with crop production, greenhouse work, field preparations and tillage, hand and mechanical cultivation, harvesting and distribution. Besides having an interest in sustainable farming, apprentices should enjoy interacting with the public and feel comfortable working with interns, part-time farm crew, and volunteers of all ages. Apprentices should be up for the challenge of physically demanding tasks, work hours, and pace of the farm season. We seek flexible, responsible crew members with excellent work ethics, energetic attitudes, and a sense of humor. Applicants should work well both independently and as part of a team.
