Perhaps you've heard of this new initiative of the USDA.  Apparently some senators are not very happy about it, notably John McCain, Saxby Chamblis and Pat Roberts.

"unfortunately this spending doesn't appear geared toward conventional farmers who produce the vast majority of our nation's food supply, but is instead aimed at small, hobbyist and organic producers whose customers generally consist of affluent patrons at urban farmers' markets."
In response, read this open letter to the USDA from a small farmer in Washington State.  And if you are so inclined, tell the USDA what you think.
