Southside Community Land Trust in Providence, RI is looking for two new Americorps VISTA positions to help us with exciting new projects! With all of the new community gardens popping up around Providence, and the renewed interest in urban food gardens in every neighborhood, our two new VISTAs will be a welcome addition to our work.

SCLT's City Wide Food Garden Outreach Assistant
SCLT will begin a year-long project starting in summer 2009 to assess the interests and needs of all Providence residents related to urban food gardening. The City-Wide Food Garden Outreach VISTA will create and conduct a survey in Providence, and present survey findings to the general public. Additionally, the VISTA will work with SCLT staff to create an online Urban Agriculture Resource Center, an education tool with video, photographs, and how-to guides for urban residents interested in food gardens.
SCLT's Healthy Soils, Healthy Gardens Assistant
The Healthy Soils, Healthy Gardens VISTA will work with SCLT staff to organize and manage the build-out of new community gardens in Providence, including a public fruit orchard. The VISTA will also conduct outreach to residents of South Providence to generate interest in urban food gardens and determine the needs of the community members who live near the gardens. Additionally, the VISTA will work with longtime community gardeners on a newly formed collaborative to grow and sell fruits and vegetables at local farmers' markets.
Southside Community Land Trust provides access to land, education and other resources so people in Greater Providence can grow food in environmentally sustainable ways and create community food systems where locally produced, affordable, and healthy food is available to all.
