CEFS is offering a full-time, 12-month position.  The primary purpose of this position is to support the research and extension program of the Director of the Center for Environmental Farming Systems, including in the field, lab, greenhouse, and community. The individual in this position must be able to plan, design, conduct, and evaluate experiments that range from simple experimental designs to complex systems work.  In addition to providing research support for a variety of faculty and graduate students, including within a 200 acre long-term farming systems experiment (within the 2000 acre facility), this individual will support the operation and integration of research within the small farm unit at CEFS, a diversified organically certified working educational farm.  Research and extension programs also include community-based local food systems work that could involve statewide partnerships.

Center for Environmental Farming Systems is dedicated to sustainable agriculture research, extension and education. Our goals are to provide new economic opportunities in rural and urban communities, develop technologies that promote a cleaner and healthier environment, educate the next generation of farmers, consumers, and scientists, and engage all citizens in the food system.  CEFS's 2000 acre research station was established by North Carolina State University and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in partnership with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services at the Cherry Farm facility near Goldsboro, N.C., in 1994.  These partners work closely with state and federal agencies, non-governmental organizations (for example, Carolina Farm Stewardship Association, Rural Advancement Foundation International, North Carolina Farm Bureau Federation), farmers, and citizens to provide agricultural research, extension, and education for our state.  CEFS collaborative community-based food system work extends statewide and compliments the long-standing research of the Goldsboro site.  The development of CEFS is a national model for partnership, innovation, and interdisciplinary cooperation.
