ELECTED OFFICIALS URGE AN OPEN & TRANSPARENT
COMMUNITY-LED PLANNING PROCESS FOR THE SOUTH STREET SEAPORT
Last week, city and state elected officials representing Lower Manhattan sent a strongly worded letter to the New York City Economic Development Corporation urging an open and transparent, community-led planning process for all public assets at the South Street Seaport, including the Fulton Fish Market Tin Building and New Market Building.  We regard this as a first and vital step towards rejecting any plans already made for these sites without public input, and ensuring they remain dedicated to the public purpose.

HOW TO HELP: Read an excellent summary by Terese Loeb Kreuzer here, and make sure to "like" the article to show just how many supporters endorse our elected officials on this issue.

PARTY TO SUPPORT "SIMPLY SEAFOOD"
SATURDAY NOVEMBER 9, 6PM INSIDE PIER 17 PAVILION

As you may know, the many small business tenants of the Pier 17 Pavilion have been evicted to make way for its demolition and conversion to a big-box shopping mall.  Yet one stalwart tenant remains:  Simply Seafood, owned and operated by the Demane family, former wholesalers at the Old Fulton Fish Market.  As you can read here, the Demanes believe their lease is still valid and they want to continue doing business at the Seaport, as they have for so many generations.

HOW TO HELP:  We are spearheading a "Support Simply Seafood" gathering next Saturday November 9 at 6:00pm.  If you are interested in attending please write us:  [email protected] and we will get back to you with more information.
Our next market will be on Sunday, November 24. Stay tuned for more information as we work to restore the East River Market District!
Sincerely,
THE NEW AMSTERDAM PUBLIC MARKET ASSOCIATION, INC.
