Weir River Farm Seeks Market Garden Apprentices! Weir River Farm, located in Hingham, Massachusetts, is a property of the Trustees of Reservations. The farm sustainably raises livestock and vegetables and provides educational opportunities for adults and youth. The 3.5 acre market garden is a developing program and distributes organically-grown produce through a new CSA, a local farmer’s market, restaurants and donations. We are hiring market garden apprentices for 2011. We seek people who are enthusiastic about farming to assist with all aspects of a small, diverse vegetable operation. Responsibilities include assisting with crop production, greenhouse work, field preparations and tillage, hand and tractor cultivation, harvesting and distribution. Besides having an interest in sustainable farming, apprentices should enjoy interacting with the public and feel comfortable managing volunteers of all ages. Apprentices should be up for the challenge of physically demanding tasks, work hours, and pace of the farm season. We seek flexible, responsible crew members who have great senses of humor and work well both independently and as part of a team. This is a 30-week, seasonal position starting April 5, 2011 through the end of October. Compensation includes a stipend of $400/week, plus vegetables, participation in Eastern Mass CRAFT workshops, and attendance at a summer farming conference. Sorry, we do NOT have any housing available at this time. Some experience at a production farm is preferred. If you are interested in a summer-only (10 week) internship, please email for more information. Interested candidates should send letters and resumes to Amy Baron, CSA Farm Manager, at abaron (AT) ttor (DOT) org.
