University of Vermont's Farmer Apprentice Program
The University of Vermont, in partnership with the Intervale Center, has created a five-month intensive program for aspiring farmers that provides a hands-on, entrepreneurial approach to sustainable farming. What is it? This program offers participants the unique opportunity to manage their own growing site, take classes from professors and farmers and rotate as workers and learners between successful, diverse farms at the award-winning Intervale Center in Burlington, Vermont. This program will provide an intense, supportive experience where participants leave with a Certificate in Sustainable Farming, a deeper understanding of agricultural management and small-scale farming, and the entrepreneurial skills to start their own operation.
Aspiring farmers should attend:
Who are looking for a career in sustainable farming or interest in organic practices
Who want to create sustainable food systems
Who value a comprehensive education in all aspects of the business of farming, including selling and distribution
Who want a hands-on “on the farm” experience
Who are changing careers to a more environmentally connected profession
Who want to live and learn in Vermont about small-scale, diversified farming
