Most of them are unaffordable by beginning beef farmers, because they are selling for estate value. And certainly all of them are unaffordable for beginning dairy farmers for whom the costs of production are greater than the milk prices.
It is a very bad situation.. making it better is the columbia county land conservancy who matches farmers with land owners with long term leases. See their online site
