stone cipher farm apprenticeships

Posted: March 14 2012

Another opportunity in Maine.

Our farm is a certified organic small diverse vegetable operation, also growing strawberries cutting flowers and eggs.  We crop off of 4-5 acres, with several more in cover crop.  We have also many more acres of hay land and forest, that we utilize for fertility and fuel respectively.  We sell at the 2 Portland Farmers Markets, on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, as well as directly to many of Portland's finest and most well known restaurants and grocers.  Our wholesale sales are growing as well, to the Crown Of Maine distributer.
We work  hard to support our small family on the meager profit margin that farming brings, but have a lot of fun, and and are never too busy to just breath in the air and thank god we are doing what we love.  I believe we offer a very fun and jovial work environment, assuming everyone is pulling their weight.  There is a lot of monotany and a lot of long days, but ample down time and breaks to the big city on market days.  We offer room and board in a comfortable cabin with water and electric, as well as a weekly stipend, the amount of which can be discussed upon interview.
I could type all day singing the praises of our farm and what we do, but we can do that in person if you are interested in coming on up for an interview.  The season has started already, with green house seeding and the beginnings of field prep, and we are ready to take folks starting now, or no later than late April.
Email or give a call if you have any questions, or check us out on mofga.org, or google satelite our address for an arial of the place.  For a longer description of what we do, go to the "programs" section of mofga.org, and look under apprenticeship, and under farm descriptions, we are "sag 08".
