seeds of love

Posted: February 4 2012

Planting the Seeds of Love will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012, from 7:00pm – 10:00pm at The Lantern Inn, 10 Main Street, in Wassaic. This event benefits the Somos la Llave del Futuro (We are the Key to the Future) community garden project in Amenia. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. For advance tickets, please visit somoslallave.eventbrite.com.

“Planting the Seeds of Love will offer the community an opportunity to learn more about Somos la Llave’s important work in the mid-Hudson Valley,” said Betsey McCall, Garden Coordinator. “As the local food movement continues to build all over this country, more and more people are showing an interest in planting their own gardens and growing their own food. We are raising funds that will go toward purchasing seeds, plant starts, garden tools, wheelbarrows, and everything needed to operate a garden. Planting the Seeds of Love will be a festive way for people to show their support for local food and their community.”
A few highlights from the event include: kissing booth, DJ Spiritbear, dancing, piñata, silent auction and raffles, and $3 Pabst Blue Ribbons. All of the proceeds from the PBRs benefit the garden courtesy of The Lantern Inn. The gardeners have created a delicious menu: Sopa de Verduras con Pollo, Rice Pudding, Champurrado, Black Bean Soup, and Tamales!

“We started the community garden last spring when it was wet and cold, not ideal gardening weather,” said Edward Frederick, Somos la Llave board member. “Thanks to the generosity of Erin and Sam Bailey, we were able to have a space for the garden in Amenia, within walking distance for all of the gardeners. We hope to find more space and more gardeners that want to grow and share in the harvest of food and friendship. We are planting the seeds of love.”

The benefit committee is made up of gardeners, farmers, and community members: Breanne Trammell, Gabriela Pragman, Edward Frederick, Louise Lindenmeyr, Suko Presseau, Sophie Meili, Durgan Diaz, Rocio Espinosa, Patricia Santiago, Napolean Leal, Consuelo Martinez, Erin Bailey, and Betsey McCall.
All of the proceeds from Planting the Seeds of Love benefit the garden. Somos La Llave del Futuro is a 501(c)(3) non-profit. For more information, please visit plantingtheseedsoflove.info or send an email to [email protected].
