Pachamama is seeking to hire full-time employees and interns to participate in all areas of the farm during the 2013 season, including seeding, planting, weeding, watering, harvesting and marketing vegetables, and various other farm projects. Both positions require living on the farm from April 1st through the end of November.
Employment applicants must have previous farming experience. An employee’s pay is calculated on an hourly basis at $8-$12, based on level of experience. Employees are expected to work at least 40 hours per week, sometimes as many as 70. An employee will be given the responsibility of completing given tasks, while leading individuals in the process.
The internship program enables individuals to develop their knowledge of farming through the experience of working on a small, diverse farm in close community. Interns also have the opportunity to consistently ask questions and take time to do personal studies. A stipend of $750/month for 40-50 hours of work per week is the compensation for this position.
A discounted rent of $300/month plus utilities are deducted from the gross income or stipend in exchange for a room in the three bedroom “farm crew” house. Couples are encouraged to apply. The deadline for applications is February 22nd.
Pachamama is located along the foothills of the Rocky Mountains at 5,000 feet. Farming is done using strict organic practices. They currently distribute a wide variety of vegetables and some apples through a CSA program and to restaurants. The farm is 38 beautifully diverse acres of which 2 are cultivated for vegetables and 10 for alfalfa pasture. In addition to annual crops, a 16-year-old orchard contains 75 fruit trees. The plan is to incorporate more animals into the ecosystem in the near future and incorporate various permaculture techniques. More details can be found on their website at www.pachamamafarm.com.
To apply, please submit a letter of interest and a resume with at least one personal and one professional reference by email to [email protected]. Qualified applicants will quickly receive a reply email including an application for employment.
