oblong ridge farm opportunity

Posted: March 11 2012

Oblong Ridge Farm in Amenia, NY seeks to partner with young farmers who need land on which to get started and/or livestock owners looking for extra land for their animals. We currently make hay on 60 acres and have 65 acres of fenced paddocks used to turn out boarded horses. We do not use chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides anywhere on the property. We seek to partner with farmers who need extra space for ruminant livestock, which we'd like to rotate with pastured poultry, either yours or ours. Hay making expertise is a plus, and a hay share arrangement would be welcome. Vegetable and other crops are also a possibility. We are open to negotiating different types of partnership agreements customized to individual farmers' needs; the bottom line is that we have more land than we can currently farm ourselves, and we'd love to see it put to productive use in one or more sustainable agricultural enterprises.
