land opportunity - central MA

Posted: March 30 2010

This landowner just contacted us - a good arrangement could certainly be worked out for the right greenhorn(s).

I live on a 21 acre farm in Paxton, MA that is currently an active hayfield - see photo. It sits on the top of a hill and most of the land drains quite well. Having been inspired by the greenhorns movement, I'm looking to make a couple of acres available to local organic farmers who need land for their business. This is not free; I need to maintain some minimal income from the property to keep my agricultural tax exemption. Something on the order of a few hundred dollars per acre per year - or we can work out a deal where you provide us some veggies and help me with some other work around the farm. You must practice organic farming, no pesticides, etc... I've got a family living here. I will provide free water up to the point that my house well can handle. It's deep and I've never had a problem with it. I'll also get a tiller for my farm tractor so I can open up the land and till it annually for you. This is a big experiment that I hope works out well for all of us. If you're interested, please contact me at [email protected].
