jobs at Holcomb Farm

Posted: January 9 2012

Holcomb Farm is a fast-paced production-oriented produce farm. We have two year round farmers and a seasonal staff of 4-10 for about 28 acres of vegetables plus a small amount of livestock. We are seeking motivated individuals with a strong interest in production farming and a proven capacity for outdoor physical work. We aim to provide an abundant and high quality supply of produce for our CSA, restaurant, and wholesale customers and we depend on crew members that can both take direction from the farm managers and work independently when required. All crew members should be able to maintain good attention to detail, quality, and safety while working at a consistent pace. All field positions require the ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly.  Working at Holcomb provides a good learning experience for those interested in pursuing a career in agriculture or someone that enjoys hard but fun work!
The CSA is part of a non-profit organization, Holcomb Farm Inc., which stewards a 367 acre property for the town of Granby.  At our doorstep are miles of trails for hiking and horseback riding, a great stream for a quick dip after work, and a bucolic farm setting in a town that is very supportive of local agriculture.  Many other small farms in Granby and our neighboring towns provide a source for additional products that we sell in our farm store, including honey, maple, cheese, yogurt, beef, lamb, soap, fruits and more.  Located just 30 min from Hartford, there is a nice balance of rural and urban life, should you seek it out.  The Asst. Farm Manager is a founding member of the New CT Farmers Alliance – a great way to tap into agriculture in Connecticut.
