As an Immigrant Workers Specialist 1, you would serve as a liaison between the Department of Labor, agricultural employers, immigrant workers and advocacy groups.
You would work as a liaison with farmers to enhance their understanding of their responsibilities under state and federal Labor laws, rules and regulations. You would be responsible for conducting housing inspections at the farms in the assigned region and would also conduct prevailing wage surveys. You would provide support to farmers in their need for qualified farm workers and their participation in the H-2A or similar guest worker program.
You would serve as a liaison for the Department with immigrant workers, and related advocacy groups to ensure equitable access to Department programs, services and facilities. You would promote the use of all DOL programs and services in the rural sector with a balance between protecting the rights, safety and dignity of immigrant farm workers and providing support to farmers. You would assist in the coordination of workshops to enhance immigrant workers understanding of their rights under state and federal Labor laws, rules and regulations. You would prepare reports and memoranda outlining immigrant needs and concerns, describing the department's outreach activities, and analyzing and evaluating outcomes.
You would maintain involvement with Department programs in the investigation of allegations of Labor Law violations related to immigrant workers. In collaboration with various anti-trafficking coalitions, educate the public about what labor trafficking is, and how to identify trafficking victims. You would educate the public about the U visa program and support the processing of U visa applications, as necessary. Perform other related duties as necessary.
