If you're a farmer looking for a way to easily expand your wholesale business, a new company called FarmersWeb (FarmersWeb.com) aims to help you with just that. FarmersWeb connects local farmers and producers with wholesale buyers online through their custom-built site. So far, the list of participating buyers includes restaurants, schools, country clubs, institutional kitchens, and retail stores.
The beauty of FarmersWeb is that it enables both sides to connect in a far more efficient manner. Farms create their profile pages and list what products they have available, and buyers can browse by category or farm and place orders directly on the site with any major credit card. Farms are responsible for delivery or shipping and can set their own delivery schedule by region. Buyers see only those farms within a 300 mile radius of their location.
The goal of FarmersWeb is to increase market access and efficiency for both farms and buyers, which in turn will enable more local food to reach the end customer. If you are a farm or buyer and want to become part of this new local food system, start by creating an account on the homepage, and the FarmersWeb team will be in touch. If you want more information or simply want to be added to their mailing list, let them know at [email protected]. You can also find them on Facebook and Twitter at @FarmersWeb.
