farm-sitting for the summer

Posted: June 3 2010

This is in Southern Minnesota, a good opportunity to see what farming is like before taking the plunge.
FARM-SITTING EXPERIENCE this summer (parts of June and July at least, longer is an option) would involve: the option of having a your own garden, helping with haying, caring for a few meat goats, and generally watching over the place, with very nice separate HOUSING INCLUDED on a 20-ACRE FARM (not certified organic but no chemical usage on the fields since 1983).
This is a golden opportunity for someone who wants to explore owning their own small acreage and learning more about farming/gardening (in deliciously rich soils with high organic matter), baling hay on 10 acres (I share-crop with a neighbor), small livestock care (meat and dairy goats, no milking required), and even running a FARMSTAY if the right folks step forward.
Dancing Winds Farm is a well-known goat farm (24+years), FARMSTAY (our 14th year) and former Grade A goat dairy and farmstead cheese
plant (17 years) just east of Kenyon, MN and one hour south of the Twin Cities. I've been in business since 1985 (celebrating 25 years this Sept!). I have family obligations that take me "off farm" several weeks this summer and need some reliable coverage. While I am "on-the-farm", I would be happy to offer knowledge in many capacities (goat husbandry, rotational grazing, cheese making, running a farmstay, healing arts) to the right person(s). I have been a mentor and speaker to Farm Beginnings students in the past.
3 good references required. Interested applicants need to respond ASAP (507-789-6606 farm#). I can pay a modest stipend.
Thank you for your interest.
