farm manager position 2012 - new york

Small Vegetable farm in Columbia County, NY  seeks full-time person to farm 1 acre plus large greenhouse and manage small poultry operation focused on egg production.  Our farm grows and distributes to our two markets in NYC, one with a restaurant component.  We are starting our third season.  Every year we have expanded and will continue to do so and we ideally want someone who will grow with us.
Who we are looking for:
Applicant with 3+ years farm experience, with experience in:
Organic vegetable and berry growing
Crop planning & rotation
Compost & soil management using organic methods
Intensive planting based on Elliot Coleman methods, (as we have limited space, every sqft counts)
Companion planting and organic pest management when needed
Poultry husbandry, specifically in pastured chicken laying operation (pasture rotation, egg gathering, cleaning and packaging)
Solid work ethic, reliable, able to work well with and oversee others
Excellent time-management and organization a must
Record-keeping skills using Excel spreadsheets
Technical skills with single and four-row seeders, walk-behind rototiller, drip irrigation and various hand tools
Season extension:  Ability to work in greenhouse, with quick-hoops and row cover in the field
2-3 harvests per week during high
 season (includes washing, weighing and packaging produce)
Wild mushroom and plant foraging experience a plus
Bee keeping experience also a plus

What we offer:
This is a full-time salaried position for April-November, ¾ time in March and December
Possible off-season  winter work in our distribution and retail locations
