daily harvest farm seeks apprentices

Posted: February 13 2013

Farm Apprentices are either full time or part time and either full-season or partial-season. The position requires fun-loving, strong-backed individuals who love to work and who are eager to gain farming experience and skills. Previous farming experience is not required, but we do ask for an eagerness to learn and be a part of a hard working team.

Apprentices will work on the farm, along side the farm manager, Monday-Friday. Hours vary throughout the season with the peak summer harvest hours of 7am-5pm. Apprentices are also able to attend farmers markets on Saturdays.
Apprentices receive a monthly stipend, produce from the farm, and can attend various workshops throughout the season through NOFA-NY.
Daily Harvest Farm is a small, sustainable farm that uses only organic growing methods. Our work focuses on using bio-intensive practices and enriching the soil through compost and green manures. Apprentices are involved in all aspects of the farm, and work side by side with the experienced farm manager. We also expect our apprentices to be prepared for a demanding work environment. Farm work is highly varied, quick-paced, and requires people who are willing to be flexible and perform labor-intensive work. A typical work week will include transplanting crops, harvesting, washing produce for farmers market and CSA pick-up, maintenance of tools and equipment, irrigation system maintenance, direct marketing, supervising volunteers, soil preparation and handling of small machinery.
The farm is located in a picturesque setting of rolling farm land in Central New York. The farm is located only 20 minutes from Syracuse and Cazenovia.
