Common Roots Urban Farm is seeking a farm operations partner with a strong interest in farming in an urban setting.  You should have experience growing diversified crops for at least one season and be serious about growing a well organized, bountiful organic vegetable and fruit operation. We would be working on all aspects of the farm together from planning and marketing, to seed starting and field work.  You should be resourceful, responsible, self-motivated, adaptable, and have a sense of humor. Being in an urban setting we often interact with a wide array of people, which you should feel comfortable with.  Social media skills, while not necessary, are definitely a plus!
Common Roots Urban Farm is located within the city limits of Buffalo, NY and sits on approximately  1 acre of land. The farm began in 2012 growing diversified vegetables on ¼ acre of cultivated land and marketing to a small CSA and local restaurants. This past season was spent growing green manure on the cultivated land, opening up a new plot and establishing grapevines, red raspberries, and  rhubarb plants as well as starting a perennial herb garden.  Serviceberry and Elderberry trees are planted throughout the land and a small orchard with young apple, cherry, pear, and peach trees was planted in 2014.
I am a female farmer with roots in Buffalo. In 2008 I moved to Maine to
apprentice on a 4 acre farm, went on to manage a 1 acre diversified farm, and ended up with my own ¼ ace farm on leased land. After 3 years in Maine I moved back to Buffalo with every intention of starting an urban farm here.  With the support of a great network of urban growers, Common Roots Farm was born just one year after my return. I now own a house a few doors from the farm, where I raise hens and bees.
Please contact me to find out more about the farm!
