Kinderhook Farm is a grass farm located in the Hudson Valley of upstate NY that is seeking an able-bodied and enthusiastic apprentice for 2010. The farm raises beef cattle, sheep, poultry and horses on over 500 acres of meadows and pastures.

Products are marketed through an onsite farm store, and to restaurants and clients in the Hudson Valley and New York City. Apprentice will help with day-to-day operations on the farm, with a special emphasis on grazing management of the sheep flock, cattle herd and poultry groups. This will include planning and implementing grazing rotations, designing and helping build water and fencing systems, and moving the animal groups through the paddocks. Depending on individual interest, there will be an opportunity to work in the marketing, animal husbandry and haymaking aspects of the operation.
Qualified candidates need not have direct agricultural experience, but a strong work ethic and excitement about and interest in agriculture and food are necessary. A sense of humor is absolutely essential.
Housing will be available, and compensation will be determined based on the skills and responsibilities of the particular individual.
