Mettabee Farm and Arts in Hillsdale, NY is hiring for multiple positions in 2016! Metabee is a Buddhist-minded educational center in the beautiful Berkshires that practices and teaches organic farming, homesteading, and the arts.

Mettabee Farm & Arts is hiring two positions for the 2016 season, a farm manager & one crew member.
Farm Manager
The Farm Manager will work closely with the director to manage the growing of food and herbs from the preparation of the beds, growing of seeds, harvesting, storing/drying, to putting the beds to sleep in the fall, and keeping tools and equipment in order. S/he will also help coordinate group interactions with the farm and help to manage any other workers, interns and /or WOOFERs. The manager will be involved with farmers market(s) and otherwise interfacing with the community, especially when it is food related.

The farm manager will primarily be responsible for the plant based farming at Mettabee, but may be asked to help with other farm related projects or needs, such as sheep related work, odd projects such as a worm bin, labyrinth, plant dye garden, herb growing and processing, set-up for concerts, orchard care, community events, meat birds and the like, but will not be responsible for such aspects of the farm. Timing for such projects in relation to the garden and others working here, will be figured out with the director.Ideal Skills: Understanding and experience growing veggies organically – including soil development, pest management, operating tractor and BCS and other related equipment, managing a green house, good managerial skills, good communication skills, enthusiasm for learning, organized, friendly, enjoys singing and wants to include work songs into the daily life at the farm (we are very into music here!), passion for food justice and otherwise the philosophy behind organic farming, likes people and animals, is comfortable being asked to do something as well as leading others. S/he must be comfortable with ad enjoy leading groups of adults and or children and be good at following-through with tasks.
Salary is negotiable $16-$20 an hour, based on experience and commitment. Ideally at least a two year commitment – to be decided upon following the first season by both manager and director. Mid March to the end of November with a bonus if committed to the following season. Some educational development (ex NOFA Conference) will be covered as a bonus for staying on for a second year as well, assuming learning is done to enhance specific work at Mettabee. Hours – probably less in early spring and could be occasionally more then 40 hours a week peak season. We do not offer housing, but can assist with finding it.
Mettabee Crew 
The crew consists of one to about four people at any one time – including woofers, students and volunteers. We are wanting at leastone consistent crew member for the season. This person must like people, have good communication skills, enjoy physical work, be comfortable following directions, working alone and with a group. This person should be inspired by organic farming and the arts. An interest in work songs and singing would be great!
Salary is based on experience from $10-$12 an hour. Tenting and an out door shower is available. We can help find other housing. Dates May 1 – November 1 is ideal, but the dates are flexible, especially for students.
