NY apprenticeship opportunity

Posted: January 8 2012

Denniston Hill, Majestic Farms, and Trussbridge Farm are pleased to announce the availability of a farm apprenticeship program that underscores the creative aspects of small farming.
Located in Sullivan County, NY - the apprenticeship runs from April 1 to October 31 and involves working closely with two farms that employ organic and sustainable farming practices. Apprentices rotate through all aspects of farming and marketing, including working with the field vegetables, pastured livestock operation, and designing a small garden. The program’s focus is on production, marketing, and education.
The apprenticeship is a unique collaboration between Denniston Hill, a not-for-profit arts center engaged with questions of sustainable development; Majestic Farms, a pasture-raised pork, lamb, and poultry farm; and Trussbridge Farm, an all-natural farm that employs organic, sustainable growing practices. Apprentices receive housing, a share of meat, and a share of vegetables. The apprenticeship takes place in a creative environment with many opportunities for learning and dialogue with the farmers and artists in residence at Denniston Hill.
An application and further details can be downloaded here. The deadline for submitting an application is February 15, 2012. For more information, please contact [email protected].
