Inn Serendipity & Farmstead Chef Updates
The extreme early summer heat fast-tracked our harvest by several weeks; we’re pulling in the garlic and potatoes already. Do a rain dance for Wisconsin farmers – the gardens are overdue for a long drink. We’re looking forward to some of our fresh summer favorites from Farmstead Chef, such as Fresh Tomato Breakfast Pie and the Fried Green Tomato and Basil Sandwich.
We’re posting weekly to our Farmstead Chef blog with HobbyFarms.com on topics ranging from favorite recipes and food entrepreneurs we encounter in our travels (check out the lasagna recipe from the MREA Energy Fair) to new twists on salad greens (Farmstead Greens with Honey-Jalapeno Dressing), as well as writing for publications like Natural Awakenings on starting a hobby farm.
We’ve been honored to receive continued strong support and praise for Farmstead Chef since its launch last fall (please keep those reviews coming and please join our Facebook page). You can get or give a discounted, signed copy here and Farmstead Chef is also now available as an ebook.

Women Farmers and the Rural Women’s Project
Lisa’s work with the Rural Women’s Project, a venture of the Midwest Organic and Sustainable Education Service (MOSES), continues supporting women farmers, ecopreneurs and food enthusiasts with three different events this summer:
1. Soil Sisters: South Central Wisconsin Women in Sustainable Agriculture Farm Tour
Sun. Aug. 5: 11 am – 4 pm
Join Lisa at Inn Serendipity along with six other area women on their farms for a day of farm tours and connecting with our food sources: Soil Sisters. Each farm will have a hands-on kids activity. Free and open to the public. No pre-registration needed.
2. In Her Boots: Sustainable Agriculture For Women, By Women

Come for a full day, on-farm gathering featuring inspiring women farmers, tours and breakout sessions. Register via MOSES website (cost $25)
3. Women Caring for the Land Conservation Training
Over 50 percent of rural land is now owned by women, leading to this new, free workshop providing conservation training for women. Four workshops throughout Wisconsin in Aug/Sept. See website for locations and registration info.
